The Party Of Lincoln?

October 22, 2011

“The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall our selves, and then we shall save our country. Fellow-citizens, we cannot escape history.”
Second State of the Union Address (1 December 1862)

Our 16th President would have nothing to do with the hot mess of crazy, stupid, and evil that has befouled his Republican Party.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The United States is suffering through the worst economic crisis in nearly a century.  Tens of millions of our fellow citizens are living in poverty with virtually no hope of ever getting out.  One in four children living in the richest nation in the world are going hungry.  Unemployment and under-employment is still shockingly high, wages are faltering, and the cost of everything is going up.

Yet the Best and Brightest of the GOP are incapable of discussing anything except how best to loot what is left of the middle class, whether the wall to keep the brown people out should be electrified or not, and how ungovernable they can make the nation in hopes of unseating the Dirty Kenyan Usurper.

Abe would be disgusted.

And what’s left of his Republican Party should be ashamed.

I’ve begun to believe that anyone affiliating themselves with the GOP is incapable of shame. The evidence if just too vast to ignore.
